Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 Released to Manufacturing

Microsoft Corporation has released Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 (SBS 2003) for manufacturing. This latest release, anticipated by many businesses and organizations planning to upgrade from Microsoft Small Business Server 2000 (SBS 2000) provides an increase in users (from 50-75), additional improvements to the core SBS offerings, and increased security based on the improved Active Directory directory services. This next generation bundle of Microsoft Servers promises to deliver enterprise-class security, performance, connectivity, reliability, and increased mobile worker capabilities.

Available in two releases, standard and premium, the new release will include;

·         Windows Server 2003

·         Microsoft Exchange Server 2003

·         Microsoft Outlook

·         Microsoft SQL Server 2000

The premium release will include Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 (ISA Server 2000)—a robust firewall and reverse web-caching proxy server.

Microsoft Small Business Server Features

Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 delivers improved reliability over Small Business Sever 2000 (SBS 2000) including:

·         Windows 2003 improvements in network management and security tools that improve network reliability and security enhancements. Increased options for Group Policies, which allow administrators to control the user’s desktop from a centralized location, Windows Server Update Services for a unified patch-management solution, and advanced network monitoring tools.

·         Increased support for additional fault-tolerant solutions such as disk clustering, distributed file systems (DFS) and of course, the standard offerings for RAID 5, Disk Mirroring, and Hot-Spare roll-over support.

·         Exchange Server 2003 allows additional, remote, secure access to the Microsoft Small Business Server, including Outlook over Remote Procedure Calls (RPC over HTTPS), calendar sharing and delegation, instant email response, and task management. The improved Microsoft Web Access (OWA) includes additional management options and end-user configuration settings, allowing users to make OWA their “own” when it comes to appearance and performance.

·         Although Internet Security and Acceleration Sever was also included with the release of Microsoft Small Business Server 2000 (SBS200), the improved service packs, hot fixes, and patched has made this release better and more secure than ever before.
